To serve as an example of a free and professional press, reaching a worldwide audience with news, information and relevant discussions. The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) encompasses all U.S. civilian international broadcasting, including the Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), Radio Free Asia (RFA), Radio and TV Marti, and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) - Radio Sawa and Alhurra Television. BBG broadcasters distribute programming in 60 languages to an estimated weekly audience of 175 million people via radio, TV, the Internet, and other new media.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors ranked 31st out of 32 agencies in the 2009 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings with an index score of 43.8.
Recruitment efforts have been expanded by developing new partnerships with universities and professional organizations. The importance of the agency’s mission is being emphasized in all outreach activities, as well as all advertisements. Vacancy announcements and the agency web pages have been revamped to be clearer, more attractive and user friendly.
The BBG seeks individuals with strong journalistic skill sets, including writing for radio, television and Internet as well as on-air talent and skilled interviewers and producers. Broadcasters must be fluent in both the targeted language and English. BBG also seeks television producers, studio technicians, engineers, marketing, financial, procurement, human resources and other business professionals. The agency hires at all levels and utilizes the Presidential Management Fellows Program and other internship programs.
